Review of the Aquaculture Legislation

Recognising that a regulatory knot had stifled aquaculture development following the lifting of the moratorium on aquaculture in 2004, early last year the Government formed an Aquaculture Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to provide it with recommendations “to enable the development of sustainable aquaculture.”

On November the 5th 2009 at the national Cawthron Aquaculture New Zealand conference, the Minister of Fisheries released the TAG’s report entitled “Re-starting Aquaculture” (the Report) on 5 November 2009 (Download the TAG report here).

The closing date for those who wished to make submissions on the TAG Report was the 16 December 2009. Te Ohu Kaimoana and the Takutai Trust has submitted a response to the TAG report.
